Introduction
We are a network of global educators, researchers and practitioners, re-imagining what intelligence means in an age of powerful machines: as empathy, care, and love, measured by human dignity and the common good.
Convened at the Columbia Center for Sustainable Development, The Humanitas Project gathers curricula, research and lived practice for an education that keeps us deeply human, guided by a Compass of moral and philosophical traditions from across the world.

What we work on.
Intelligence, properly understood, is not computation. From that conviction, four commitments follow.

Intelligence as a Human Act
We treat intelligence as empathy, care, judgment and love, not computation or optimization, and we measure any technology by its fidelity to human dignity and the common good.

The Political Economy of AI
We resist the workforce lens and examine how AI redistributes power, labour and cost across the world. This is the work of disarming AI.

AI's Material Footprint
We follow the physical cost of intelligence: the energy it burns, the water it drinks, and the minerals it extracts.

Climate Justice & the Global South
We attend to who bears these costs, and to AI's entanglement with climate injustice, felt first and hardest in the Global South.
The Youth Assembly · First Session September 2026
The Global Youth Assembly on AI & Sustainability
We're inviting schools and universities everywhere to take part in a global assembly of young people. Delegates put forward by their institutions will meet each month with peers across countries and the people shaping AI and education. Together they will shape and write a Youth Declaration on AI and Sustainable Development, to be signed at a global summit in 2027.
The future belongs to those who will live in it.
